We are pleased to announce our charity of the year is Bobath Children’s Therapy Wales.
Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales based in Cardiff; is a registered charity started by families for families and this year the charity celebrates its 25th birthday. They provide specialist Bobath therapy to children from all over Wales who have cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is the most common disability in children and there are an estimated 1,800 children in Wales with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is caused by damage to a baby or young child’s brain. This affects a child’s ability to move and develop in the normal way and each child is affected differently.
Bobath therapists are state registered physiotherapists, occupational therapists or speech and language therapists, with specialist training and expertise in the treatment of cerebral palsy. Bobath therapists work together, combining the three disciplines to deliver this specialist service and to look at the individual needs of the child. Their mission is ‘to improve the quality of life of children in Wales who have cerebral palsy’. Bobath therapy helps children who have cerebral palsy to achieve their own full potential, explore their world, communicate their needs and so participate and interact as fully as possible within their families and in the community around them.
We look forward to working with them this coming year.
