South Wales Chamber of Commerce Launches International Trade E-Learning platform

Figures released in December 2017 by HMRC, show that exports in Wales grew by 18.9% to £16.4bn on the previous year and imports by 20.2% to £17.1bn, some of the highest growth increases in the whole of the UK.*

With trade and export sales growing at such a rate, there are some great opportunities for companies across Wales to increase their sales and international reach, but it is also an area of business development that can be complex and costly to get wrong.

The South Wales Chamber of Commerce has long been known as the leading provider of trade and export training in Wales, with a diary of face to face training courses throughout the year for Chamber members and non-members that covers a wide range of topics to support trade and export learning needs.

The Chamber is delighted to announce that it has enhanced its international trade training offer, with the launch of a new online learning platform, Trade and Export Online. This new service sees the Chamber partner with one of Wales’ leading online learning providers, RWA, to deliver an e-Learning experience designed to help businesses of all sizes maximise the revenues generated through import and export as well as reducing the risks to businesses of getting it wrong.

Trade & Export Online can be accessed at any time, from any desktop, mobile or tablet device, which means that businesses and their employees have access to a live resource whenever they need to improve their knowledge.

With over 45 bite-sized e-Learning courses and assessments available, learners can get to grips with the core aspects of trade and export and how it might impact their business. Learners can progress through the programme in their own time and acquire digital badges on successful completion of each module as evidence of the learning undertaken.

The content covers key areas such as: The Reasons for International Trade, Marketing, Product Development, International Pricing, Agents and Distributors, Incoterms, Insurance, Risk Management, Foreign Exchange, and Payment Procedures.

Commenting on the launch of Trade & Export Online, Heather Myers, director of South & Mid Wales Chamber of Commerce, said: “A thorough knowledge of international trade is essential for any business seeking to export or import goods. The platform provides a natural extension of our face to face training services and cements the Chamber’s position as the go-to solution for businesses who import and export. Feedback from members has been excellent, with learners reporting that the course content was easy to comprehend, in ideal bite-sized chunks and served as a handy reference for any questions that they may have.”

Tom Wood, CEO of RWA, went on to say: “10 years ago, we helped deliver one of the first online trade and export training programmes that went on to successfully help hundreds of learners across the world better understand the world of importing and exporting. Working with the South Wales Chamber, we are proud to launch a new version using our award-winning My Development Zone platform that will add tremendous value to businesses in Wales, and that will have an immediate impact on this growing and important element of the Welsh economy. The content is developed with experts and specialists, and we will be using this opportunity to keep the content up to date and work with the Chamber to deliver a trade and export newsletter programme to members. With Brexit on the way, maintaining a contemporary understanding of international trade issues will be vital and this resource is going to be invaluable.”
