South Wales Chamber of Commerce attends the ‘Powerhouse for the West’ report launch and reception

As part of our commitment to being a voice for Welsh business, the South Wales Chamber of Commerce attended the ‘Powerhouse for the West’ report launch and reception, hosted by Lord Kerslake at the House of Lords yesterday.

This report, commissioned by Bristol, Cardiff and Newport City Councils states that the Great Western cross border area is a Powerhouse waiting to happen. With seven cities and three City Regions encompassed within the area, it was inspiring to hear the plans for creating an engine that can drive inclusive growth at scale, through regional collaboration. This would cover Swindon to Swansea. Similar initiatives are already happening in other areas of the UK.

With the removal of the Severn Bridge Tolls, the ever-growing Cardiff Capital Region City Deal as well as a wealth of innovation from businesses across the region, Wales is more open and ready for business than ever. We will work alongside the government to nurture these plans for the Powerhouse to enable it to further develop and grow. At the South Wales Chamber of Commerce we are committed to ensuring that businesses across Wales benefit fully from this kind of cross-region collaborative working.

To further promote this great initiative, we are holding a discussion themed: A Tale of Three Cities. On the panel will be Council members from Cardiff, Newport and Swansea debating the USP’s for businesses in each city, what they have to offer and how they can work together to strengthen Wales. It should be an interactive lively debate with opportunity for questions from the audience. This is part of our AGM being held on the 16th July from 4.30-6.00pm with further drinks and networking till 7pm. Its being held at the new and stylish NatWest Entrepreneurial Accelerator Hub, 1 Central Square, Cardiff, CF10 1FS. All are welcome to come along and join the debate. Make sure your voice is heard….. https://southwaleschamber.co.uk/event/agm-invite/
